Farm History

Wright's Mill Tree Farm consists of 250 acres of rugged rolling land in the beautiful and rural northeast corner of Connecticut. It is called the "Quiet Corner". You can check their website for Bed & Breakfasts and other local attractions at CT's Quietcorner We are located at the end of Creasey Road just off North Society Road, in the north end of Canterbury.

The farm was begun in 1738 by Jedediah Benjamin, when he and his new wife moved here from Preston, Connecticut. They began farming and raising livestock on 100 acres of land, eventually, he, his family and their successors farmed this land and the parcels they added to it for nearly 150 years.

The Amundsen's bought the farm in 1970 and began to restore the buildings and clear the old fields in preparation for raising Christmas trees.

The name Wright's Mill Farm came from the fact the farm now includes Joe Wright's old mill complex: an almost 300 year old 20 acre mill pond with 100 foot head (very rare in this area). It powered water wheels to operate two up and down sawmills and two gristmills and an apple cider press mill. Visitors are welcome to visit the remains of this once bustling industry.

Presently, the farm consists of the Christmas trees, Silo Christmas Shop, the Lodge (Cap.500), the Outdoor Pavilion (Cap. 300), walking trails, a Waterfall Ceremony site, playing fields, tennis court, horseshoes, volleyball, ponds and seasonally the Pumpkin Patch. Most importantly, the farm offers you a step back in history. Whether you visit our farm in the sun or in the snow, we hope that its atmosphere will take you back to your childhood and treat you to the flavor of old-time Connecticut.
